Promoting excellence: new agreement with Sant Pau Hospital-Barraquer to train its residents in refractive surgery

One more year, Barraquer Institute celebrated yesterday the Inauguration of the Academic Course 2024-2025 at the Auditórium II located at C/Laforja 51, in Barcelona. This event, key to starting a new cycle of medical training of excellence, brought together important personalities from the academic world, as well as students, teachers, residents and staff of the institution itself, thus marking the beginning of a new academic cycle full of challenges, opportunities and advances in the field of teaching and research in ophthalmology.
A protocolary act with academic tradition
The ceremony began with the traditional parade of doctorates, among them personalities and representatives of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the International University of Catalonia (UIC), members of the RAED (Royal European Academy of Doctors) and doctors of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center. This protocol act symbolizes the importance and respect that Barraquer Institute gives to academic knowledge and training. During the day, the atmosphere in the auditorium reflected both the emotion of the new beginnings and the great academic tradition celebrated by the institution.
The person in charge of starting the ceremony and welcoming the attendees was Professor Rafael I. Barraquer, President of the Governing Board of Barraquer Institute and Medical Director of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center. In his speech, he highlighted the mission of Barraquer Institute to continue training visual health professionals with the highest quality standards and thanked the presence of all attendees, underlining the relevance of events such as this, which not only celebrate the beginning of a new course, but also the constant advancement in medicine and education.
Conference on Regenerative Medicine
Next, we were able to enjoy an interesting presentation entitled “Regenerative Medicine: present and future”, by Dr. Montserrat García-Balletbó, an eminence in the field of biomedical research, president of the García Cugat Foundation and pioneer in the development of biological therapies for the treatment of diseases associated with ageing.

After the inspiring conference, Dr. Esther Calbo Sebasti'n, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the International University of Catalonia (UIC) spoke a few brief words and gave way to Dr. Javier Lafuente Sancho, Magnificent Rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), who declared the new academic year 2024-2025 officially inaugurated, encouraging students and professors to make the most of the learning opportunities offered by Barraquer Institute.
The event culminated with an aperitif in which attendees could share impressions, anecdotes and experiences. This moment was the perfect occasion for students and teachers to connect in a more relaxed atmosphere, celebrating the beginning of what promises to be a course full of medical discoveries, training of excellence and personal growth.
